  • Baby massage has been a long-standing parenting tradition in many cultures including Indian and African. It was introduced to the western world around 30 years ago and has gained popularity in the UK ever since.

The IAIM baby massage course draws from both Indian and Swedish massage traditions as well as incorporating principles from yoga and reflexology. Our course teaches parents a sequence of rhythmic strokes and soothing holds that have been developed and refined over many years.

The four main areas of benefit are:

    > Interactions and bonding

    > Relaxation

    > Relief

    > Stimulation

Massaging your baby provides a wonderful opportunity for expressing your love whilst meeting the high need for touch and affection that is so essential for the healthy development of all babies.

    About the IAIM

The International Association of Infant Massage is the largest and longest standing worldwide organisation dedicated to infant massage, founded by Vimala McClure in the early 1980s and our well-respected baby massage programme is now being taught in over 50 countries.

    IAIM Mission Statement

“The purpose of the International Association of Infant Massage is to promote nurturing touch and communication through training, education and research so that parents, caregivers and children are loved, valued and respected throughout the world community.”

    Our Approaching Classes

In classes, only you massage your baby whilst the instructor demonstrates on a doll. We ask permission from the babies before massaging and always follow their cues. This helps to develop communication between you and your baby as well as feelings such as trust and respect.

Our relaxed class includes time for informal parent discussion. Massage strokes are reviewed each week and handouts are given as a reminder. We welcome babies to be babies, so please do not be concerned about class times coinciding with the feed times or your crying baby.
